Summer Opening Pool Tasks

Summers are always associated with radiant afternoons and breezy nights. The beaches appear inviting, and the idea of buying a new swimsuit is enticing, too. Thinking about splashing in sparkling water is an excellent prelude to the experience that follows. But the joy disappears when one realizes the degree of work that the pool will demand before it is reopened. Whether you hire a professional or take it on yourself, the following are the essential tasks.

Start With Plants

Before we get into the pool, it's ideal to unclutter the surrounding area so that it will be out of the way and won't interfere with pool care.

Begin by removing weeds from the planting bed and pruning the trees and hedges that might have overgrown. It is best to plant shrubs and vines that shed no to little debris in or around the pool.

Roll the Pool Cover

The next step is to clean the litter off the pool cover if you have one. Once cleaned, a pool cover pump can be used to remove the water, and the cover should be thoroughly washed, drained, and dried. It can then be rolled and stored for the next use.

Inspect, Repair, Replace

Inspect the pool components for pump and filter defects, cracks and stains in the tiles, chips in the plaster and, flaws on the deck. The lighting fixtures should be assessed, too, and repaired or replaced if necessary.

Fill the Pool and Test

Check the auto-fill to make sure it's working. A clean-up should be performed using a pool vacuum or brush.

Test for pH level, alkalinity, chlorine content, and calcium hardiness. This can be performed using a pool testing kit. Based on the test results, the pool water could be treated using conditioners, algicide, and stabilizers.

Bring on the equipment

Slides, ladders, safety rails, diving boards, jump boards, etc. should be installed if not done already. All equipment should be inspected for potential mishaps and either repaired or replaced for reuse.

Deck up The Deck

The final step should involve aesthetics. The furniture near the pool or patio is responsible for comfort as well as décor and should be chosen carefully. One could give the deck a boho theme by using raw textured furniture with a tribal accent. Or use wicker chairs, throw pillows and, ceiling fans to provide a Caribbean touch. Using sturdy furniture or keeping it minimal, having a theme in mind always works and results in fresh styles and designs.

Keeping a tab on the technical aspects and fuelling the aesthetics now and then can prepare your pool well for refreshing sunny escapes in afternoons and relaxing retreats at night.
